Functional Medicine Tests in India

Hello Guys,

Hope you all are doing great.

After having my health further deteriorated by Lily Kiswani and Shabnam Kar I continued my study in the matters of health. Before visiting these two "doctors" I was able to sleep for 7-8 hours everynight, after visiting them and taking their "advices" I sleep less than 4 hours everynight and I constantly wake up at 3 AM everynight.

I learned about a few tests which the American Doctors do that are not available in India, atleast in my searching. I urge any readers to let me know in the comments otherwise.

1. Leaky Gut Test : This test checks for zonulin and occludin (particles of small intestine) in the bloodstream. When a leaky gut is present these protiens called zonulin and occludin are found in the blood stream. So this is a blood test that confirms a leaky gut. This is not a necessary test as the symptoms are enough to diagnose a leaky gut aka Intestinal hyper-permeability.

2. Cyrex Food Sensitivity Test : This test many doctors such as Chris Kresser, Ed Beyer, Amy Meyers, and a lot others say is much more accurate than any competition.

3. Organic Acid Urine Test : This test to check various vitamin & minerals in your body and to check the functionality of proper detox pathways such as pooping, peeing, sweating and sneezing.

4. Adrenal Saliva Test:

5. Kryptopyrrole Test: If you have this condition called 'Pyroluria', in which high levels of kryptopyrroles are circulating in the blood, then you are rapidly excreting Zinc, Vitamin B6 & Essential Fatty Acids (E.F.As) from the urine, these minerals help in the formation of Serotonin & Dopamine that are good for the pituitary gland that produces various hormones such as T.S.H.

6. 23 & Me Genetic Testing:

7. GI Map Stool Test: This test detects all the parasites and infections in the digestive tract, from mouth to anus. Presense of these parasites and infections are the leading cause of auto-immune condition ie chronic (long-term) activation of immune system and inflammation. View my tests here.

8. Urine pH:

9. LabCorp Comprehensive Blood Work:

10. Dried Urine Test for Complete Hormones: Here

.. to be continued..

    1. I have heard a lot about these courses and many people teaching them. One you mentioned Amy Meyers, others I know are Chris Kresser, Kelsey Kinney, Functional Medicine Institute, Terry Wahls, there are more.

My thought is that when a person is in a desperate situation he/she should go to a doctor directly, These blog posts are just to discuss about doctors and their approaches, clearly seeing cholesterol values and blood sugar and insulin values are not enough. The root of the problems are intestines mainly then liver, kidneys and viruses broadly, even thyroid is a symptom, doctors see TSH high or low and they give you TSH supplement for example. Even gastroenterologists miss most of the infections in the intestines.

Even after doing the courses one would still need experience to handle his/her own issues because after doing a range of tests it could get complicated as to where the problem is originating from and whats the best approach to treating that problem. Thats my take. Need experience even after doing the courses so going to a doctor is correct according to me.

I could probably answer all your question but it would take a lot of time and it would be injustice to reply in short sentences. Only thing I can say is go to a doctor. Yes My health has been better by the gracefulness of almighty but still a long way to go. Coming from India, its a serious disadvantage because health is not a culture in India, you talk to any person about health, all they know about it is 1st honey+lemon water and second, get up early and walk. There are million things to look at.

    1. No, he is a total jackass in working with him so far. Sells all supplements from his store only. Warns against any usage of supplements made by other companies, even the most reputed ones. Only he knows the ultimate truth and all other companies know nothing.

  7. Hey,

Its really nice to see someone so deeply involved in understanding the roots of chronic disease and a passion for nutrition. Just like you, I had health problems, because of which i started my journey down the rabbit hole of nutrition & lifestyle, but ever since my dad got myasthenia gravis, I went deep into the subject to gain as much knowledge as I could.

Don't know exactly what your health issue is, but this is what I found relevant to share with you after reading a couple of your blogs. There is a company in India which does a gut biome assay, based on shotgun sequencing so you get to know everything just like the GI panel you did recently, but its much cheaper. I've got that done and spoken to the Dr. there, he was very knowledgeable.

From the tests you listed, I would say the best ones to go for would be the Cyrex panel (from what I've read, itll give you your food sensitivities really accurately, and wont give you a bunch of false positives like IgA and IgE do. The Genova Ion panel is good for a complete bloodwork, but its too expensive, you can get a lot of those markers tested here in India from places like Thyrocare, Lalpathlabs, etc. When it comes to everything bloodwork, Chris Masterjohns "Testing nutritional status" is one of the best documents you'll get on how to evaluate your ranges and make sense of the data.

A genetic snp analysis and urine organic acid tests seem to be really insightful in narrowing down to the root of your problem, but obviously in the right hands. Leucinerichbio does a DNA test as well, and you can ask them to test individual snps. Healwellness in the south offers a lot of tests from Genova, and they do have a Urine Organic Acids Test, which costs around 350-400$. As for who you should get those analysed from, I would recommend:

Bob miller and his network of practitioners for DNA : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W57ywjCcAbc

Emily givler and her network for Urine organic acid test : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfCCxjJRXfA

finally, I read that you said you're doing a HFLC diet. I can tell you myself, that I've been vegan, paleo, ketogenic with vegetables and fiber, and now I am mostly doing an animal food based diet with very little plant foods like olive oil & avocado. Even doing keto, my inflammatory markers did not resolve, until I fully cut out vegetables and most other plant products I was consuming, other than the oils. Since I got rid of them, it finally resolved my chronic inflammation, which I have been testing since the last two years via hscrp. I also had a heavy metal problem which I've been working on following the protocol of Dr. Bryan Walsh : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOEWkCuwQUQ . A near infrared sauna is one of the best investments you can make towards your heatlth. On diet, please do explore the carnivore diet, and look into people like Dr. Paul Saladino, Bart Kay, Primal edge health, Ken Berry, Frank tufano, Shawn Baker, etc & their youtube channel. Dr Paul Saladino is one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject, he does private consultations as well and he could help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf6Rh-_zXRQ

Well, wish you best of luck on your health journey, hope these leads help you further take control of your health. Would be great to speak to you one on one, as I'm quite deep the rabbit hole in this, and we could probably get something going down here in Mumbai as there are so few people who are aware about any of this.

    Cheers,
    Yohan

    1. Hi Yohan,

I did the microbiome testing and Adrenal testing from USA and I had them analysed from Justin Marchegiani. These testings do not alter the treatment plan. Doctors do this testing to validate the efficacy of the treatment plan.

Did you microbiome tests in India reveal infections like this report https://lawsofnatureblog.blogspot.com/2018/04/gi-map-stool-test-india.html. This was my gut in 2018 March. I had and continue to have a lot of food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities.

I hear you on the carnivore diet brother. Care to dwell more into your diet? Could you share meal plans for atleast 4 days. Do you eat organic meats? Due to the lack of organic meats(in mumbai atleast), which contain healthy fats, I have no choice but to eat lean meat(rear leg of the goat) cooked in coconut oil. I dont feel satisfied with that and dont have any energy when I eat that. So therefore, I eat starchy vegetables, I cannot do without starchy vegetables, I almost came to near death situation 7 times in the past try to lower carbs under 50g through only leafy vegetables. I feel satisfied and full when I eat the fatty portions of the animal like the mutton chops, but those fatty portions cause me to react my skin. I guess that is because the animal and its fat is not organic. I react to eggs and Broiler chicken(non-organic) also.

I would be eager to follow your blog on your carnivore meals.

Have you worked with any of the doctors outside India?
Have you got any supplements from these doctors outside India?

Please share your number. You can delete your message after my acknowledgement.

      Thank You
      Heisenberg

    2. Hi, the blog and the responses from Yohan have been very helpful understand how far and beyond one needs to go to finally arrive at something which may be helpful to some extent. I have been struggling to find someone I can talk to here in India. I haveahave autoimmune diseases. Being based in Mumbai and haven't been able to find relevant doctors or testing that is needed. If there is anyone you could connect me with, will be very helpful.
Someone like Yohan, or a doctor or a nutritionist or a lab which does such testing we need, will serve as a ray of hope for me.
      Thank you
